Tennis Necklaces: The ultimate guide on how to choose your Tennis Necklace
TENNIS NECKLACE STYLE GUIDE
The necklace that takes centre stage, the creme de la creme, the effortlessly chic - tennis necklace
Since 1987 when the tennis necklace was given its name, its popularity has soared.
Chris Evert, a championship tennis player, was playing a match at the US Open when she lost her diamond-studded bracelet. Play was temporarily halted to search for the bracelet, and after the match Evert referred to the bracelet as her tennis bracelet, and the idea of the tennis bracelet (and tennis jewellery) was born.
Tennis necklace is the most common name for this type of necklace, but other names include line necklaces, infinity necklaces, and eternity necklaces.
Few pieces of jewellery make quite as strong a statement as the tennis necklace. That single row of diamonds glistening away on someone's neck, not only oozes timeless elegance, but also acts as the ultimate status symbol.
So, why are they so popular? Versatility.
We think the best quality of a tennis necklace is its ability to match beautifully with any outfit. It immediately elevates the simplest of looks, and changes jeans and a white t-shirt into a look to be envious of! The classic design of these necklaces makes them both easy to pair with other jewellery or sophisticated enough to wear as a single statement piece.
Diamond tennis necklaces are a such a versatile piece of jewellery. They provide the perfect accessory for any outfit and can be worn on occasions when a longer necklace would be too much and style so easily with your day and night looks.
Katie Silver, our CEO and founder, believes that a tennis necklace is the perfect gift.
“It’s a piece of jewellery that can be worn every day, as well as for special occasions. You just can’t go wrong with a tennis necklace.”
“It becomes a part of your daily look and something you feel naked without!”.
“I love to layer them too, our rainbow tennis necklace mixed with our diamond necklace is the most sophisticated way to add a pop colour to your look”.
The Setting
We have so many options when it comes to the tennis necklace, but let’s first cover the setting we use for all our tennis necklaces.
Our tennis necklace settings are all expertly crafted, four prong settings, made to offer smooth movement and are designed to beautifully encase the round brilliant diamonds.
Cheaper models can be found in what may initially look like the same classic setting. However, they can often be rigid with no smooth movement. They are usually machine made and mass produced, which can mean lower quality and can catch on your skin or garments.
We also have a selection of bezel setting tennis necklaces which have grown hugely in popularity recently. Style your prong set necklace with your bezel setting in another gemstone for an ultra stylish daily look.
The Cut
The round cut is the cut of choice for our tennis necklaces.
Diamonds can come in a variety of shapes, but the 10 most popular are the round, princess, cushion, emerald, radiant, marquise, pear, oval, Asscher, and heart cut. Round cut diamonds are one of the most popular and have been for a long time, as they are known for their ability to beautifully reflect light due to the many facets and angles.
The Craftsmanship
Our quality is on par with top jewellery houses but without the overheads the large brand names carry. From the classic to the playful, plain to colourful, we have it covered.
At Argent and Asher all our jewellery is handcrafted by our master jewellers and there is no exception with our tennis necklaces. Made to order, individually for you, each stone is hand-picked to match the piece specifically and the prong setting is hand moulded and made from start to finish by one jeweller. All our necklaces come with the option of white, yellow or rose gold and in either 14K or 18K solid gold.
The Colour
We have so many gemstones options to choose from so let's cover the coloured gemstone options.
We have created a range of topaz tennis necklaces to bridge the gap between super chic style and affordability. Set in 14K solid gold, these are still pieces made to last a lifetime but are a little more affordable than their diamond sisters.
Can you tell they aren't diamonds? Ok, they aren't going to sparkle quite like our diamonds options however they absolutely meet the style criteria.
We also have the rainbow tennis necklace which is an extremely popular option, with vibrant rainbow sapphires giving you an amazing burst of colour!
We also have a half blue / half white & half green / half white topaz versions of the tennis necklace that are unique to Argent & Asher and compliment both the colour tennis necklace and classic tennis necklace, giving both looks in one necklace... and absolute winner for any occasion.
Our classic tennis necklace is the most popular choice with the rainbow tennis coming in a close second.
